GOODS CONFISCATED
Contraband in Free Zone
LUIS GONZALEZ GONZALEZ
lgonzalez@laestrella.com.pa After conducting an investigation, customs agents detained a truck containing 15 refrigerators, 5 microwave ovens, 5 digital disc players, 12 air conditioners units, two plasma televisions and two washing machines.
The inspectors confiscated the merchandise and took it to i headquarters to carry out more inquiries and find out who was implicated in the contraband. Customs are also investigating cases of counterfeit products, which is one of the more serious problems of contraband held in the Colon Free Zone. Last year Customs confiscated counterfeited clothes and tennis shoes worth $2.5 million. Colombia maintains an embargo on all products from the Colon Free Zone on most ports, and Panama denounced the country before the World Trade Organization. Publicidad
