Insurance company PALIC accused of non-payment

Former insurance agents claim that their CSS quotas were not paid

PANAMA. A group of former insurance agents and brokers denounced the insurance company Panamamerican Life (PALIC) for not complying with the mandatory payment of the Caja de Seguro Social (CSS) quotas, even though these were substracted from the workers’ salaries.

Benicio Villareal, one of the victims, manifested that the debt the company holds with around 12 former brokers would reach half a million dollars.

He added that despite court rulings dating back to 1986 mandating that the company has to pay the quotas, PALIC has not done so.

“After working almost 10 years with PALIC, my time to retire came and I went to the CSS to present my papers and find the unfortunate news that the insurance company had not paid the quotas and we were left on air,” manifested Villareal.

“We haven’t achieved justice,” he added.

The former insurance brokers said that they have exerted all possible efforts in courts as well as in the company to try and get PALIC to pay the mandatory quotas but it has all been in vain.

Amael Acosta, another one of the brokers making the accusation against PALIC, indicated that in total there were around 25 people that found themselves in this situation, but the company paid half of them their social security quotas.

However, when it comes to the rest of the victimized former employees, PALIC has not wanted fulfill its duty.

“Our accusation is not only with the company, but also against the people in the CSS who have not been diligent,” he said.

La Estrella tried to reach the insurance company, PALIC, but despite calls to its representatives could not get a response.
