Youth group organizes free concert to raise awareness

PANAMA. The National Police director in a recent interview with La Estrella claimed that violence in crime, and not crime per se, had risen.

Whichever the case, one thing is certain: Panamanians are worried. In order to raise awareness among government officials as well as the civil society on the recurring insecurity, the group Jóvenes en pro de la Seguridad Ciudadana (Youngers for Public Safety) has taken the initiative to organize a concert for peace and security in Panama.

The event will be held this Saturday January 24 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on the steps of the Canal Administration building.

This will be an event where the organizers as well as the performing artists will be donating their talent for the enjoyment of the Panamanian public, as they call for more measures to be taken to assure that crime and violence in Panama does not continue at the current alarming rate.

The concert for public safety will have a mix of musical genres, with great performers from Panama’s folkloric music, reggae, rock, pop among others.

Most importantly, entrance will be free. Organizers only ask attendees to wear white as a symbol of harmony.

The list of local talent performing on stage is long. Everyone from the most experienced ones like Osvaldo Ayala, Samy y Sandra Sandoval, the brothers Ricardo and Alberto Gaitan, Los Rabanes, Ness y Los Sensacionales, Alejandro Largota, Omar Alfano, Margarita Henriquez (winner of last year’s Latin American Idol), to participants of current reality shows such as “Viva la Musica”, “Bailando por un Sueño” and “Canta Conmigo” will be present.

The concert will also have different DJs from renowned radio stations donating their talent, as well as figures from the best television programs from MEDCOM, TVN, and TV Max.

Everyone will be coming together both on stage and in the crowd, for the country’s security. Hopefully, the latter will also include government officials with the power to take the necessary steps to tackle this problem.
