Panama Star PANAMA. During a routine sailing trip on the waters near the Pacific coast of the Darien province the ship San Miguel Arcangel ran into trouble and was shipwrecked near Punta Caracoles. A 13-year-old child died, nine people are missing and 15 were rescued.
Twenty one people were aboard the 25 feet San Miguel Arcangel traveling from going from Jaque to the town of San Jose. The incident happened on Tuesday morning between eight an nine.
When the wreck was confirmed the Border Police, Civil Protection, the National Air and Naval Service and fishermen went to the area to help passengers and rescue survivors.
The National Air and Naval Service has not revealed what caused the shipwreck.
