The Public Ministry located in the centric neighborhood of Calidonia, has been for many years the scene of marches and protests by different unions feeling the need to fight for their rights and make sure that the government is respecting the social needs.

The favorite assembly place for these marches is Porras Park, where traditionally unions chant slogans and make fiery speeches that disturb the work of the employees at the Public Ministry and other nearby public institutions.

These marches, protests and scandals before the building of the Public Ministry have not been to the liking of the Attorney General, Ana Matilde Gómez.

Her reaction has been to request more security and vigilance from the National Police during the rallies and to guarantee the public order in this sector.

Gómez said that the protests and marches affect the people who work in the different prosecution offices.

Everyday prosecutors and employees take testimonies and give tests to alleged delinquents, which requires a great deal of concentration and vigilance of the area, as well as more security, said the Attorney General.

Some prosecutors are worried that criminals could take advantage of the protests to make a daring escape, before they are brought to trial or have a chance to be charged.
