PANAMA. President Martin Torrijos, Vice-President Samuel Lewis Navarro, and the Administrator of the Panama Canal Authority, Alberto Aleman Zubieta, were among the dignitaries at Caterpillar’s groundbreaking ceremony of its Demonstration and Training Center in the Panama Pacific Special Economic Area (former Howard base), yesterday.

The new center will showcase the capacity and quality of Caterpillar’s products and services.

During the ceremony, Torrijos said the establishment of new foreign investment in the country, in the midst of the global crisis, shows the level of confidence among businessmen towards the current administration.

He reminded those present that while unemployment figures are rising in the region due to businesses, industries, and maquiladoras going bust, an important act such as Caterpillar’s groundbreaking ceremony was taking place in Panama. It will generate 500 new jobs with an investment of $25 million.

He called on Panamanians to believe in the country as businessmen are believing in it, avoiding self-destructive actions, remaining optimistic, and defeating all those that in the midst of electoral campaigns think that they need to destroy to construct after the election period is over.
