PANAMA. A new trial date has been set for Ricardo Traad Porras, former head of the Maritime Service and the other 12 defendants.

PANAMA. A new trial date has been set for Ricardo Traad Porras, former head of the Maritime Service and the other 12 defendants.

They are accused of crimes against the National Economy.

The new date, June 25, 2009 was set by Fourth Penal Circuit judge, Silverio Rodriguez after a request from Prosecutor Sofia Carreño, who argued that the period to examine the evidence closes on April 30 and it is a right of the defense lawyers to do so and avoid exclusion of evidence in the future.

The test period was still open due to a delay in notifying the contempt to court of Edwin Manuel Ramos and Juan Bautistas, who will be judged separately from Traad Porras.

It is expected that the case will be solved in June.
