PANAMA. Arenera Balboa S. A. , the most important sand supplier in the country announced that sand prices will go down in the near future.

The sand supplier company said that after having meetings with President Ricardo Martinelli, it was agreed to cut the cost of the product as a first step towards reducing construction prices.

Currently there are 14 sand supply companies that collect this product in land and sea, through concessions given by the government to exploit the material in specific areas.

Although the price of fuel is lower that in the past, the wages, transport, equipment are other materials have taken a hike, which has caused the sand collection costs to increase.

The general manager of Arenera Balboa S.A., Benjamin Boyd Lewis said that distribution change has also contributed to the cost of this construction material.

The company has agreed to establish a price of $12.62 + VAT in the plants of Vacamonte and Bejuco for the Panamanian Construction Chamber CAPAC and create a monitoring mechanism to avoid price speculation and illegal sand extraction.
