PANAMA. The National Energy agency has released new price limits for fuel starting on August 1.

PANAMA. The National Energy agency has released new price limits for fuel starting on August 1.

Maximum prices in the metropolitan area will be : $2.88 a gallon for 95 octanes fuel, $2.73 for 91 octane fuel, $2.31 for light diesel and $2.42 for improved diesel.

According to the agency, the increase in prices is due to an increment in crude oil princes, decrease in the availability of finished products and the high speculation on long term purchase contracts.

Two weeks ago the government announced a decrease of 17 and 20 cents but the cited elements have caused the price to rise again by 14 cents.

Continued production restraint by members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and unrest in Iran and Nigeria, respectively OPEC’s second- and seventh-biggest oil producers, are also supporting rising international prices.

The new prices will remain valid through August 14.
