XIX Expo-Habitat

PANAMA. The most important Construction and Housing fair in Panama, Central America and the Caribbean, Capac Expo Habitat 2008, will be held this upcoming week from Sep 17 to 21 at ATLAPA.

The event is organized by the Panamanian Construction Chamber (CAPAC), which put forth its first fair 28 years ago in order to showcase to the Panamanian community a clear representation of the state and role of the construction industry in the country’s socioeconomic development. Every year, thousands of people interested in learning about the industry’s latest trends and developments make the pilgrimage to ATLAPA.

Although many might think of CAPAC as a construction fair, nowadays it has expanded into much more. In its early years, the focus was on the technical details of the industry such as construction materials and equipment, but thanks to the dynamism of the sector, the fair has expanded into the now broader concept of Capac Expo Habitat, which includes everything you can think of for the house? including the house itself!

Given Panama’s real estate boom of recent years, CAPAC Expo Habitat’s role as a facilitator of the real estate market has increased. Nowadays you can both check out available housing and new projects to be constructed as well as start negotiating a mortgage with a bank under the same roof.

This year, more than 350 exhibitors are expected, surpassing the numbers of previous years. International companies from Canada, Taiwan, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela,and the United States, among others will be participating.

Among the exhibitors you might find of interest are the more than 300 housing projects—located from the metropolitan area to the beaches and interior —that will be exhibited, alongside companies that can provide finishing services, decorations or accessories you might need for your home.

According to the President of the organizing committee, the engineer Ivan de Ycaza, Capac Expo Habitat will occupy more than 17,000 cubic meters of the ATLAPA Convention Center, the biggest in its history, making it the most important construction-focused commercial activity in the region.

The fair is divided according to exhibitor’s activity or industry. For example, banking and finance, machinery and equipment, etc.

It will be open to the public from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
