The protagonists were Richard Koster for Democrats abroad and Albert Rojas for Republicans abroad.

The protagonists were Richard Koster for Democrats abroad and Albert Rojas for Republicans abroad.

Unlike some of the attack dog style of confrontations that we have witnessed on CNN, the debate was a gentlemanly affair, although the odds were somewhat weighted in favor of Koster, who has been speaking for the Democrats for longer than most expats can remember.

Rojas on the other hand was a last minute volunteer, who bravely put forward the McCain point of view, and when he called for a show of hands to answer his question “Who wants to hear about President Bush?” not a finger was raised. He got the same response when he asked who wanted to hear about the past, as a riposte to Koster’s linking of Bush and McCain.

He then went on to talk about McCain’s past achievements from hero to maverick.

But it was all well received and worth the trip to Clayton.
