PANAMA. The National institute of Culture (INAC) recently announced the start of the Summer 2009 activities, in honor of the 100th birthday of the artist Humberto Ivaldi

Throughout the season, the INAC will hold a series of performances and workshops.

Last year, some 40,000 people attended the cultural events.

This year, the National Ballet will be holding a tour across Panama City and the interior.

Their first performance, which will be open-air, will be on Friday January 30 in Aguadulce with a performance by the National Ballet. The event is at 7:00 p.m. in the city’s park.

Story telling, paintings, folklore, mask making, and literary workshops will be offered, the latter headed by the writers Roberto Manzano (Cuba), Jacinta Escudo (El Savador) and Victor Manuel Rodriguez (Panama).

Another initiative will be the first seminar about film scripts, headed by Joaquin Horna Dolande.

Information on the workshops will be released soon.

Starting on Jan 27, historic and tourist tours through Casco Viejo will be held starting at 9:00 a.m

They will will be aimed ato children aged 7 – 12.

To participate in the tours, interested people should visit the office of any of the “Junta Comunales

They are in San Felipe, Victoriano Lorenzo, Calidonia, Ancon, Belisario Porras, the “Casa del Pueblo” in Aguadulce or the museum in Penonome.

In Panama city, there will be a grand concert at Parque Omar on February 6, starting at 7:00 p.m. Artists such as Los Beechers, Match And Daddy, Carlos Garnett, and Alejandro Lagrotta will be performing.

As for art exhibits, painters like Silfrido Ibarra, Julio Zachrisson, Etanislao Arias, Jerry Lester Mendez and others will participate in an exhibition starting Jan 29 at the INAC’s Visual Arts Gallery.
