PANAMA. After the death of a newborn baby, who according to family members was not treated on time during labor, Gerardo Victoria, director of the Santo Tomas Hospital, announced that starting Monday the hospital will add five nurses, five nursing technicians and two additional manual workers to the staff of 35 working in the maternity wing.
Additionally, he said that by the end of the month there will be 20 nurses, 15 technicians, and 5 manual workers.
He hopes to hire six gynecologists/ obstetricians to strengthened the hospital’s care for pregnant women.
Victoria added that he will strengthen the provision of food and medical supplies in the department, and that he will name five people for customer service.
They will be able to keep family members updated with the state of hospitalized mothers and newborns.
The latter decision comes as family members in the case of the dead newborn claim that no one in the hospital informed them of the little girl’s death
They didn’t get the news until hearing about it directly from the mother.
