PANAMA. The Panamanian Foreign Service is going to go through a reorganization process and a possibility exists that certain embassies and consulates might close to make it more efficient, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Vice-president of the Republic, Juan Carlos Varela. “We need to optimize the use of public funds to increase revenues through the merchant navy consulates and eliminate any unnecessary expenses,” said Varela.

Vice-president Varela said that if he has to increase the prices of the sailors carnets so be it, because the government needs to find money to be able to carry out its programs. “We are going to talk with the Maritime Authority director about the best way for the consulate monies to enter the treasury,” said Varela.
