PANAMA. From this month, all vehicles will have to have a government-issued card showing the ownership of the vehicle.

The Transit and Traffic Terrestrial Authority (ATTT) will give the vehicular ownership cards free of charge.

Car owners can find out the status of their card by calling 315-0000 or visiting the web site http://www.tarjeta.com.pa

For Panama and Colon provinces, ownership cards will be given at Auto Depot. Car owners in other regions can retrieve their cards at the offices of the Motorized Vehicle Only Registration of ATTT.

Foreigners will have to bring both the original and a copy of their immigration carnet that coincides with the passport they used to register their vehicle at the Motorized Vehicles Only Register, as well as their passport with one copy of it, and the original and copy of the Vehicular Property Certificate.

The new system will allow the police to identify stolen vehicles more quickly.
