New York Yankees ace closing pitcher Mariano Rivera has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder and is expected to need the full offseason to recover.
The surgery was performed by Dr. David Altchek at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, on Tuesday.
The 38-year-old Rivera had another solid season this year, converting 39 of 40 save opportunities while posting a 6-5 record with a team-best 1.40 ERA. He appeared in a team-high 64 games.
