PANAMA. One dead, three wounded and two detained was the result of an intense armed confrontation between drug dealers and members of Panama’s Naval Service, close to Isla Caleta in the San Miguel Archipelago.

The Naval Service director, Juan Vergara confirmed that the police operation was held in the early hours of Thursday, when Panamanian coast guards saw a power boat speeding through the Pacific.

Police forces challenged the boat and the suspects opened fire against the police, Vergara said. In the shoor out one of the drug dealers, without any identification, died.

Another three Colombians were inured by gunshots. The wounded were taken by helicopter to the Santo Tomas Hospital.

Vergara said that the police found drugs inside the speed boat, but the quantity was still unknown.

Several rifles were also found and are now in the hands of the Public Ministry.
