PANAMA. The number of pornographic videos involving minors has increased dramatically according to a report of the Judicial Investigation Department (DIJ). It receives an average of two movies a month.

Several investigations have revealed that behind the production of these pornographic videos with children are adults who profit from their sale.

The most shocking factor is that some of the blue videos are recording by minors using the cameras of their cellular phones.

The authorities confirmed that many of these videos were recorded in schools and asked teachers and parents to control the use of cellular phones.

According to the DIJ report, what is more worrying is that this child pornography is finding its way on the Internet, which constitutes a more serious crime.

In November 2007, the daily El Siglo reported that a net of pornographers were selling DVDs of minors performing lurid acts in David, Chiriqui province. The video was filmed in a local school.

This is an ongoing problems that the authorities trying to contain, but due to the financial rewards and the secrecy surrounding crimes involving minors it is difficult to detect and arrest the culprits.

Child pornographers face a sentence of between seven to ten years.
