PANAMA. The relocation of cables used by telephone, cable TV and electricity transmission companies is delaying and making the government projects more expensive that they need to be, said the Public Works minister, Federico Jose Suarez.

The minister said that in the majority of the cases the projects that the government is developing are delayed because these companies take a long time to move the equipment and cables from one place to another.

“It is very common to see part of the infrastructure construction finished, including the installation of new posts with cables, but weeks pass by without the old ones being removed. What is worse, in many occasions the the project is opened, although the posts are not being relocated, which represents a high risks for drivers and pedestrians alike,” Suarez.

“The delay in finishing on time government project on time, generates dissatisfaction and disquiet among the population and affect the the economic activities of the country,” said the minister.

The worse offenders are the telephone companies and the cable TV companies, which take a very long time to do a job, although they know well in advance the dateline said Suarez.
