The report was prepared by an investigation team headed by Urania Ungo, a specialist in human rights and it was aiming to find out if lethal violence against women was on the increase and the circumstances of the killings.
The Social Development Minister, Maria Roquebert said that femicide takes many forms and can be defined as the extreme violence that men exert on women. That violence is used to obtain power, domination or control and it is not limited to cases within the family or sexual assault.
Roquebert added that the report showed an increase in the number of femicides during the period of the study and that the women more at risk are the younger ones.
