PANAMA. The Citizens Democratic Network is following closely the investigation of Daniel Delgado Diamante, Minister of Government and Justice, currently on leave.

On Thursday the leaders of the Network met with attorney general Ana Matilde Gomez to learn about the state of the investigation against DDD for the alleged murder of a soldier Andres Garcia in 1970.

“It is embarrassing for a minister accused of having killed a man, to hide behind a paid leave of absence,” said Mauro Zuñiga, head of the Network.

“Out of respect to Panamanians, DDD cannot return to the post of minister, and has to face justice for this crime.”

The former ombudsman Juan Antonio Tejada affirmed that they are asking the president to permanently withdraw the minister from his position, so he can fully submit to the scrutiny of justice officials.

Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary of Transparency International, Angelica Maytin Justiniani said that the Network would continue fighting on the streets, to avoid DDD’s return.

Maytin said that the vigils held on Via España would also continue, until the Executive branch withdraws the security decrees currently being debated at the National Assembly.
