PANAMA. La Casona de las Brujas in Casco Viejo hosts an array of artistic and cultural events? from jazz nights to hard rock performances to independent films screenings and exhibits organized by embassies. Its founders, Yiyi Barra, Blanca Davalos and Miguel Sanchez, offer their own vision of art and similar cultural expressions through the type of exhibits and events they host.

Believing in the art that emerges from new generations and which questions and analyzes the values of the social context that generates it, their aim according to their website is to provide a space for innovative and young tendencies of art.

With their motto of bringing forth new things by new people, every Wednesday, they play independent films at 8:30 p.m. for free.

Thursday and Friday nights are reserved for parties, with Fridays specifically reserved for live music performances that can range from salsa to rock. This Friday December 12 La Casona will have DJ Charles Bell, with live tattoos on stage. Saturday nights are also dedicated to music, but exclusively jazz.

La Casona also regularly hosts art and photography exhibits. Currently it serves as home for the “Pacific Driftswoods” sculptures exhibit by Valerie and Yves Leblet.

This Thursday Dec 11, La Casona will reveal the new addition to its premises, “La Tienda”, its own store which will sell clothes, accessories, jewelry, sculptures, paintings and decorations created by both local and international artists. An inauguration ceremony will be held at 9:00 p.m. with music by DJ Ana Palmera and all are invited.

La Casona is located in Casco Viejo, one block past the Plaza Herrera. Info: 211-0740.
