The Consumer Protection Authority ACODECO (Autoridad de Protección al Consumidor) announced that the 95 octane gasoline will cost 1.97 per gallon.

The 91 octane $1.83.

Light diesel will be sold at $1.83.

The new maximum prices will be valid from Saturday January 3 until January 16.

The government imposed the top prices in fuel as a way to keep internal prices competitive, while it continues with the analysis to find formulas that are more favorable for national consumers.

Although the fuel prices have diminished dramatically since September 2008, the cost of the basic food basket products have not been affected, mainly because supermarkets appear to refuse to pass on those saving to the consumers.

It is expected that the electricity tariff will go down by 25 percent compared to this month, thanks to the reduction in oil prices.

The government will revise the price of fuel again on January 17.
