PANAMA. President Martin Torrijos said he will “respect popular will” in the May 3 elections, claiming as irresponsible the comments from opposition politicians that warned of possible electoral fraud.
“I have a commitment to my country, as has always been the case, and nothing will happen here but the respect of the popular will,”
During an interview with radio station KW Continente, Torrijos said he had never before seen a political campaign like the current one, lacking proposals, and with well orchestrated accusations from one side to another, which was detrimental to politics. “I believe it is hurtful to democracy, irresponsible and unjust,” he said. These accusations are “part of the irresponsibility with which this campaign has been carried out.”
