PANAMA,. It was a mini Christmas in August for dozens of kids in Panama’s Children’s Hospital on Tuesday, when two red shirted Canadians arrived to distribute toys , bringing smiles to the faces of children suffering from burns and other debilitating injuries and to the faces of the nursing staff, as the visitors handed over boxes of toothbrushes.

The hospital is seriously under funded but still needs to provide items like flip flops and toothbrushes to its tiny patients, many from underprivileged homes.

The donations were courtesy of Amelia Moultbee a political science major at the University of British Columbia assisted by Alex Guerlin, a finance major at McGill University in Quebec.

They are both members of Junior Team Canada, currently on a mission to Panama to build cultural and business ties.

On their tour of the wards, they came across a wheel chair carrying a Canadian flag. It had been donated by the Rotary Club of Abbotsford, BC
