PANAMA. It seems that the whole world is talking about Panama’s public transport system.

PANAMA. It seems that the whole world is talking about Panama’s public transport system.

Proposals to modernize the system have been received from as far away as Asia, Europe and several countries in Latin America.

Since July 24 when the Transport Authority (ATTT) first called for those interested in the project to come forward, 15 companies have made enquiries and six of these have made sent formal letters of intent to the ATTT director, Sandra Escorcia.

The names have not yet been disclosed but it is thought that some of those expressing interest are Panamanian companies.

The deadline for companies to come forward ends today, Friday, at 3pm.

According to the ATTT, at least 1,000 new buses are required and will be operated by two different concessions.

The chosen company must have experience and financial stability.
