During an interview given to La Estrella, the First Lady said that she is particularly interested in finding out what happened with the sculptures, because they disappeared from a public park in which her office has personnel working there.
According to Fernandez Torrijos the statues are tainted with corruption and that was the reason why there were moved from one place to another, until finally they were put in a warehouse in the Parque Omar for safekeeping.
The First Lady added that the robbery was discovered at the beginning of September, when the warehouse was opened and an employee discovered the theft and told Mingthoy Giro who in turn reported to the Institutional Protection Service, which was caring for statues and they notified the police.
Talking about her friendship with Minghthoy Giro, the First Lady said that nobody is above the law, but all the accusations against her are gratuitous and unnecessary. “We need to wait for the police to finish their investigations, before accusing anybody.
Fernandez Torrijos is confident that the Public Ministry and police will discover the truth behind the vanishing statues. In the meantime the plot thickens.
