Since taken his post in July 2008 Stempel has helped Panama to a first time win of the Nations Cup (Copa de Naciones), putting the squad in the world’s top 50.

The news came in the February ranking issued by FIFA (International Association Football Federation) Panama reached the 50th spot, obtaining the highest rankling in its history.

“This is great news for Panamanian football.

“It is a proud moment for a country that does not have a proper infrastructure for the sport or a professional football league, to rise above nations such as Colombia, Peru and other Central American squads that have been developing skills for many years,” said an ecstatic Stempel.

Panama’s victory in the Nations Cup meant a jump of 33 places and with Costa Rica was the country that made the bestprogress in the world.

At the beginning of the year was number 83 in the FIFA ranking.
