Two passengers and the pilot of a Robinson 44 helicopter died when the craft crashed in flames at Tocumen airport Thursday evening.

Two passengers and the pilot of a Robinson 44 helicopter died when the craft crashed in flames at Tocumen airport Thursday evening.

One passenger jumped before the helicopter hit the ground but was killed by the fall into the airport parking lot.

The other passengers diedwhen the helicopter exploded on impact

A preliminary report, identified the passengers as, Ramon Ricardo Perez and Arturo Kan Tello, who had been inspecting an electric plant in Tucuti, Darien. They left the Miraflores community at 3:55 p.m. and the crash happened an hour later.

The pilot Gary Bouche was ordered to make a 360 degree turn before landing, however, at 800 feet., said the director of Civil Aeronautics, Eustacio Fabrega, an explosion occurred and the helicopter plummeted to the ground.

It was the second helicopter tragedy leading to loss of life in Panama in less than a year. In May 2008 a Panama Police helicopter crashed in Calidonia killing 11.
