PANAMA. After two weeks of uncertainty about the political future of the Alliance for Change mayoralty candidate, Bosco Vallarino, the judges of the Electoral Tribunal signed a resolution allowing him to run in the May 3 elections.
Minutes before, the electoral prosecutor Boris Barrios presented a petition to the judges requesting the withdrawal of the document that asked the suspension of Vallarino as candidate for having dual nationality.
The Civil Registry certified that Vallarino has a Panamanian nationality.
The case could open the floodgate because it implies that Panamanians with dual nationality could vote or run for public office although it clearly violates the constitution.
