PANAMA. With a public apology and a letter, the Telemetro show Parecen Noticias presented their excuses to the Afro Panamanian community for airing racist jokes.
On June 10, they broadcasted a show in which they made fun of the Minister of Education Lucy Molinar using derogatory terms about her race. An open letter from the Society of Friends of the Afro Antillean Museum (SAMAAP) to President Martinelli prompted the apologetic reaction by the producers of the show. “I offer my most sincere apologies for this terrible mistake that hurts the dignity of all people, of the afro community and all other ethnicities” wrote Carlos Pasquini producer of the Telemetro show. Admitting the jokes were in bad taste, the staff aired a public apology on the Tuesday show.
