PANAMÁ. Former Panamanian National Sporting Institute (INDE) members Melitón Sanchez and Roger Moscote were found innocent of embezzlement of funds, the court of Justice Gil Ponce said Thursday.

Accusations began to fly after it became public that the two had seemingly diverted nearly $70,000 of unused funds from the 2004 Athens games into their personal accounts.

Judge Hilda Bonilla de Vidal ruled on July 9 that the irregularities in the movement of Olympic funds could not be accredited to INDE.

A conclusion was reached by the judge that as INDE is a subsidiary part of the Panamanian Olympic Committee (POC), administrative decisions on the direction of the funds cannot be applied by the Committee. Because of this, the POC legally has no control on the destination of the contributions given to INDE.
