PANAMA. The 200,000 young Panamanians aged 18-29 who are neither working nor at university, are the target of the government’s new youth employment scheme, “My First Job”, currently underway in the capital.

Already 12,000 young people have signed up for the program which offers a monthly transport and food allowance of $108 and both basic and specialized instruction for training courses in different careers, including work on board cruise ships, call centres, and others.

The program is run by the Ministry of Work and Job Creation at a cost of $11.5 million.

In five years we hope all these young people will find a place in the work force.”
