PANAMA. The first vaccinations against swine flu will probably not be made available until the beginning of 2010, according to Dr Jorge Nieto, director of the Gorgas Commemorative Institute.
He said the A/H1N1 virus is extremely contagious and strict measures of personal hygiene should be implemented to prevent its spread.
Doctors are particularly concerned that the virus has already infected people in the comarcas, where standards of nutrition and hygiene are low.
Meanwhile, the 10th victim of the A/H1N1 virus in Panama - a 59 year old woman - has died in Herrera.
