Stories from the United States' relationship with the Panama Canal, in celebration of its centenary

The SS Kroonland is a mercantile ship whose history was closely linked to the Panama Canal. In February of 1915 it became the largest passenger ship to date to travel through the Canal. Being one of the largest ships at the time, it was placed in the New York to San Francisco service which traveled through the canal. However a landslide in the canal limited the transit the ship would have. Short after it was one of the first passenger ships fitted for combat during the First World War Afterwards, the ship returned to the Panama-Pacific line.
