PANAMA. The Cabinet recently approved an additional $42 million for the Health Ministry (MIDES), to cover President Ricardo Martinelli’s campaign promise of paying a $100 bonus to retirees 70 years old and older.

Yet before the program has even started, the elderly are already being scamed for their enthusiasm. Earlier this week, in Chiriqui, a man paid $15 to fill a fake inscription form for the bonus program.

MIDES announced that inscriptions will start on July 20, and they will be free.

The first payment is foreseen for September 15, and will be given to the 11,000 elderly people already identified by a census held for the Opportunities Net.

Those who register on July 20 will start getting payments in October.
