PANAMA. The Guild Theater of Ancon is performing its third presentation of the season called: “The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940”.

Directed by Jeanne-Marie Leggiere and produced by Ron Leggiere “the Musical Comedy Murders of 1940” is a short play by John Bishop first performed on Broadway in 1987. It is based on several 1940s mystery movies, including The Cat and the Canary, one of Bob Hope’s first films.

“The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940” takes place in the library of a mansion in New York, inhabited by a woman owner and her maid. It opens with the maid’s murder, while the mansion’s owner talks to a police officer, both seemingly unaware of what’s going on.

The next morning, the owner has guests over for a backer’s audition of the musical House Merry-Go-Round. Soon though, guests realize that everyone coming were part of the creative team that made Manhattan Holiday, in which three women were murdered.

When one of the guests is murdered and the maid’s body is found, a quest for the murderer begins.

The production is sponsored by The Embassy of The United States in Panama, and with the suspense that comes with mysteries and the laughs that accompany comedies, it promises a fun night.

The play will be showing today Saturday and October 23 – 25 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 and can be reserved at 212-0060.
