PANAMÁ. The national government has announced that a prorogation has been granted to the taxi drivers union, giving them until December 31 to have all vehicles painted yellow, said
Sandra Escorcia Alvarado, director of the Transport Authority (ATTT), at Tuesday a press conference.
This prorogation is just the latest of a series of delays that started many years ago.
Escorcia indicated that Martinelli’s decision was made due to an campaign promise he made leading up to the election.
She also said that this would be the last postponement on the matter.
The Director General also stated that she will be spending the next few days familiarizing herself with accusations of licitation that drivers have been indulging in for their routes in heavily populated areas.
She also declared that the routes offered by the buses in the metropolitan area will be revised, saying that it will require a minimum of 2,000 new buses.
The new bus system will be put in effect to ease traffic concerns that plague the city.
