The Minister of Government and Justice, Jose Raul Mulino, has asked the Attorney General’s office to investigate the escape of 12 prisoners from the La Joyita jail at the weekend. Nine guards were fired following the incident in which the prisoners cut bars and the perimeter fence and shots were exchanged. It is believed that other personnel may also be involved. The guards who were dismissed have also complained to the Attorney General’s office. They said the National Police was responsible for the high security area from which the men escaped.
