Roxana Mendez gets key to the Mayor’s office

PANAMA. While Juan Carlos Navarro exited the Mayor’s office through the back door Roxana Mendez and Bosco Vallarino came in triumphantly to take over the Mayor’s office.

Roxana Mendez is mayor now, designated by the Electoral Tribunal until the pending case against Bosco Vallarino is resolvedâ?¦or not.

“We will be negotiations and finding the formulas to recover outstanding balances including governments debts”, said Mendez before boarding the elevator to reach the seventh floor of the Hatillo building, the place where the district’s affairs will be taken care of.

Mendez received the keys to her office accompanied by Bosco Vallarino and her mother who congratulated her with a flower bouquet.

In principle, only Mendez was to get the keys, but in the end, both her and Vallarino received them together.

“Only thing left to say is, go forward” where the last words by outgoing Mayor Juan Carlos Navarro before leaving the office.

Despite all the drama surrounding elected Mayor, Bosco Vallarino, he is still willing to work.“ I am going to work for free, until the my case is resolved” he said.

Meanwhile the Supreme Court has not made a decision about what is going to happen with Vallarino, who according to the National Constitution cannot occupy an official post, because he has double nationality.

Political analysts said the Electoral Tribunal should have never allowed Vallarino to run in the mayoralty elections, while the issue of his citizenship was in doubt.

Currently there are two lawsuits against the elect mayor.
