Perez Balladares said that he was upset with the U.S. Charge de Affairs, Tomas Mesa for misinterpreting what he said and called the diplomat a liar.
“I don’t know why the U.S. cancelled my visa and although the American government appointed a prosecutor to investigate the allegations about me giving Panamanian visas to Chinese citizens so they could enter the United States, nothing was proven,” said the former president.
Perez Balladares added that nine years have passed and the U.S. still has no proof against him and therefore the visa cancellation was a political punishment for not turning in Pedro Miguel Gonzalez. The former president denied that he had anything to do with the sale of visas to Chinese during his government.
