PANAMA. Panama’s world champion bantamweight boxing idol, Celestino “Pelenchin” Caballero is is ready to meet contender Jeff Mathebula on April 30.

Pelenchin the reigning WBA super bantamweight title holder is currently training in Boquete, Chiriqui province, and will return to the capital city on Sunday.

His manager, Rogelio Espiño said that the team working with Pelenchin has considered bringing the Venezuelan fighter Pablo Vasquez to spar with him, because the two boxers have similar physical characteristics.

Espiño added that he does not know the exact arrival date for the Mathebula fight, but he is coordinating the traveling plans.

The fight with Mathebula is a mandatory defense of the International Boxing Federation title and will take place in the Roberto Duran Arena on April 30.

Caballero said that he has the obligation to give hif fellow countrymen a victory and at the same time honor Panama’s boxing hall of famer Roberto Duran.

The champion has been training under the supervision of Jorge Zerpa and has been sparing with the Venezuelan Rafael Hernandez and Luis “El Nica” Concepción.

The fight promises to be one of the most important sporting events of the year.
