PANAMA. The Attorney General Ana Matilde Gomez said that she is in the process of making a list for the possible replacement of Jose Abel Abrego, the former Drugs Prosecutor, who resigned last Monday.
Gomez said that Abrego could not advance any further in the Public Ministry and it was possible that he was looking for other career options.
In the meantime other prosecutors will take care of pending cases until the new prosecutor is appointed.
“The person we have in mind to occupy the Drug Prosecutor post has to be experienced and have a trajectory within the Public Ministry,” said Gomez.
The Attorney General said that resignations within the Drugs Prosecution Office are not unusual due to the nature of the crimes that are being investigated. She added that there are not protected prosecutors and everybody can be subject to investigation.
