PANAMA. The ceremony in which Sandra Noriega Siero received her credential as legislator of the Central American Parliament did not go smoothly, after the former Revolutionary Democratic Party councilor and journalist, Joaquin Vasquez, started shouting at her: “Everybody knows that you are Manuel Antonio Noriega’s daughter, so why are you fleeing the press?”
She looked furiously at Vasquez and cursed him. The journalist became more ebullient and shouted at her: “You wanted to be a beauty queen, now throw kisses. You are in show business now.”
After that Noriega decided to talk to the press saying that she was happy and ready to work hard for Panama, but avoided mentioning her father.
Sandra was accompanied by her sister Thays. Both sibling are working as diplomats under the government of President Martin Torrijos.
The Electoral Tribunal gave credentials to 19 other legislators.
