PANAMA. The price of fuel will go up again on Saturday May 23. The 91 octane gasoline will increase 26 cents and final cost will be $2. 63.

The Consumer Protection Authority ACODECO says that the 95 octane gasoline will go up by 19 cents with a total cost of $2.80.

Light diesel increases by 13 cents, with a cost of $2.08.

The authorities said that the cost of fuel is going up is due to a reduction in the consumption of fuel and a limited production of crude oil.

Two analysts pointed out the it is unlikely that the price of gasoline will surpass the $4.00 as happened in April and July of 2008.

The average price of fuel for the consumer in Costa Rica is $3.24, in El Salvador $2.83, Guatemala $2.70, Honduras $3.03, Nicaragua $3.29 and Panama $2.60.

This year without exception all countries in Central America adjusted their fuel prices with the exception of Costa Rica. Panama’s fuel prices are among the lowest in the region.

The authorities will review the fuel prices in two weeks time.
