PANAMA. The Supreme Court of Justice has declared null and void the contract for the cable cars construction between Ancon Hill and the Amador Causeway.

The Supreme Court judge, Victor Leonel Benavides Pinilla examined the contract between the defunct Revert Goods Authority ARI and the Guarare Cable Car Investment Society and came to the conclusion that it violated thelaw that declares Ancon Hill a nature reserve and a protected area for the Panama district.

The verdict was seconded by all the supreme court judges.

The decision was made to preserve the forest wealth of the historic Ancon Hill and reinstates its category as a protected zone.

The verdict is a landmark in the area of environmental law and follow the modern norms.

The Guarare Cable Car Company was planning to develop a theme eco-tourism park that would have shops, restaurants an other attractions and at the same time connect the Causeway with Ancon Hill.
