PANAMA. The year and a half battle between local musicians and hoteliers has come to an end. The Panamanian Society of Authors and Composers (SPAC) and the Panamanian Hotel Association (APATEL) reached an agreement that will guarantee copyrights to musicians in accordance to law 15 of August 8 , 1994.
The agreement was signed by Christian Garcia from SPAC and Jorge Loaiza from APATEL and will end all previous lawsuits.
From now on, a license must be purchased by hotels to reproduce copyrighted music in common areas of the establishment.
Both organizations agreed on a fixed tariff for the service and the amount will be set by SPAC. The agreement will last 5 years.
