Espino is being accused of destroying 38 hectares of mangrove in Punta Chame, where he was planning to develop a community resort.

Prosecutor Alcides Pimentel said that Espino should be found guilty, because of his crimes against the environment.

While Espino’s defense lawyer, Diogenes Alvarado pointed out that no crimes was committed since affected area was completely reforested by the defendant’s company.

Judge Jose Hoo will decide the fate of Espino within the next ten days and will pass sentence after that. The case was re-open last December.
