PANAMA. The new National Police director, Gustavo Adolfo Perez De La Ossa said that he will stop corrupt policemen from taking bribes by giving training and teaching them to respect the uniform.
Perez De La Ossa, who has been in the private security business for more than ten years said that the society, institutions, community leaders and the police should get together to work to make the neighborhoods safer.
The director Perez that the most important thing for him at the moment is to protect and serve the community and currently is working with his advisors to devise plans to do just that.
Perez insisted that with better pay, more young people will join the force, but the most important factor for the public force to succeed is to have good equipment and training. He refused to answer any questions about the security cameras that have been installed in the different parts of the city alleging that criminals could find that information useful.
The director said that he hopes that the citizens trust him and give him time to resolve the insecurity problem that currently is affecting the country.
