New chiefs appointed

Commissioner Francisco Troya will be in charge of the National Police, Frank Abrego will be responsible for the National Border Patrol Service and Rigoberto Gordon will be the director of the National Air and Naval Service.

Torrijos has promised to give the newly reformed Public Forces helicopters, vehicles and communication equipment to help them do a more a efficient job.

The security laws that created the Public Forces have caused a lot of controversy, because many citizens groups believe that they are giving too much power to the people in charge of them and they represent a step towards the kind of organization that engineered the military coup in the 60s.
